Vitesco to Achieve CO2-Neutral Value Chain By 2040

Vitesco Technologies has set itself an ambitious goal of climate protection: by 2040 at the latest, the company, headquartered in Regensburg with about 50 locations around the world, wants to achieve carbon neutrality along the entire value chain. Vitesco Technologies therefore goes beyond its direct environmental impact (Scopes 1 and 2), which the company seeks to make completely climate-neutral by 2030. This goal is to apply to all business processes along the entire value chain (Scope 3) through 2040 max – Specifically, all suppliers’ products and the subsequent use of Vitesco Technologies components and systems in vehicles.

“We’re really on the right track in this regard,” explains Ingo Holstein, CHRO’s chair of sustainability at the executive board level. By 2030, we will shape our corporate activities around the world into CO2Neutral method. Vitesco Technologies already supplies 100 percent of the electricity purchased worldwide from renewable energy sources.

As a result, the company has already reduced emissions from its own operations by 89 percent compared to the 2019 base year. “For the remaining energy that is still purchased from fossil fuel resources, we will create environmentally viable alternatives in the near future, such as heat from biogas, and regular electricity “.

Besides covering its electricity needs exclusively from renewable energy sources, Vitesco Technologies is also working to reduce its overall energy consumption. “We want to provide a total of 80 gigawatt-hours of energy by 2030 with the help of energy efficiency programs at our sites,” explains Dr. Hans-Juergen Braun, chief operating officer of Vitesco Technologies.

In order to achieve complete climate neutrality, Vitesco Technologies covered not only the added value of the product, but also non-product activities, such as business travel, investment and leasing. Added to this is CO2 Emissions from the primary supply chain and the subsequent use of its products in the vehicle. Both of these phases make up more than 40 percent of the company’s total emissions. Therefore the company works closely with its suppliers, business partners and customers, who support transparency in reducing their impact on the environment. Vitesco Technologies is leveraging its lifecycle engineering expertise to improve the lifecycle assessment of individual products, which is expected to be rolled out soon to all operations within the company.

Vitesco Technologies is due to publish its first comprehensive sustainability report in the spring.
